On Wednesday 31st of July a very excited group of our Young Carers attended the annual Scottish Young Carers Festival.
The Festival - a 3 day camping trip - allows around 400 young carers from across Scotland a break from their caring role, an opportunity to have their say and most importantly have FUN! Our young carers took part in lots of activities including circus skills, creating tie-dye t-shirts and bags, inflatable fun, meeting unusual animals with Zoo Lab, science activities, outdoor adventures, live entertainment and a silent disco!
The Festival is also a consultation event for young carers. There is a designated consultation zone and a political speed dating event with MSP's and policy-makers - allowing young carers to feedback the difficulties and struggles they have faced and what support they need in the future.
For many, this trip was their first respite break away from home, which made the trip extra special. Our young carers grinned and giggled through-out and we were blessed with beautiful sunny weather in Fife which truly gave us the festival feel. This trip gave our young people the freedom to meet new friends, step out of their comfort zones and try lots of new activities. Our young carers rated the Festival 10/10! When asked how they would sum it up, they replied - "Fan-dabby-dosey", "AMAZING" and "An unforgettable experience".
