DESCRIPTION:Do you have Huntington’s or care for someone with the disease? \nScottish Huntington’s Association\, the only organisation in the country dedicated exclusively to the care and support of people impacted by Huntington’s\, is holding a new support group here at Renfrewshire Carers Centre. \nThe first meetings will take place on Friday 2 October 2026 from 1pm to 3pm\, and Friday 5 February 2027 from 1pm to 3pm\, for people with the disease\, family members\, and carers. \nA Scottish Huntington’s Association HD Specialist will be there to answer any questions you may have\, and you will also meet other people facing the challenges of this devastating disease. \nHuntington’s is caused by an inherited faulty gene that damages the brain. SUMMARY:Brain Injury Support Group
DESCRIPTION:Quarriers Brain Injury Community Support provides support for adults living within the Renfrewshire area who have an acquired or traumatic brain injury. Additionally\, we provide empathetic support to carers to address emotional needs\, as well as practical coping strategies to manage daily responsibilities. \nSupporting a family member with a brain injury can be life-changing\, bringing about confusion and long-term challenges for carers. \nThe service aims to provide comprehensive support strategies to help carers navigate these difficulties. This includes offering a listening ear and empathetic support to address emotional needs\, as well as practical coping strategies to manage daily responsibilities. \nBy providing these resources\, the service ensures that carers are not alone in their journey and have the tools and support needed to care for their loved ones effectively. \nWe are working in partnership with Renfrewshire Carers Centre to provide information\, advice and support to unpaid carers throughout Renfrewshire. \nOur close working links enable us to refer into Renfrewshire Carers Centre ensuring wraparound support. Every month\, we will facilitate a group specifically for carers of those with a brain injury. This group will be an outlet to gain some more understanding about brain injury\, the effects on the individual and those around them. We will promote peer support and an opportunity to share experiences. The group will be inclusive and driven by those with a lived experience of caring for someone with a brain injury. \nThe group will meet on the last Friday of each month from 1.00- 3.00pm at Renfrewshire Carers Centre. SUMMARY:Male Carers Support Group
DESCRIPTION:Our Male Carers Support Group is well attended and open to men in the Renfrewshire area who are in a caring role. It is not condition specific\, meaning regardless of what condition the person you’re caring for has\, you can attend. \nThere is a real social aspect to this group as it strives to meet the needs of the men who attend. There is often a lot of laughter and light hearted humour on display at these meetings\, but they are also an opportunity for the Male Carers to talk about their caring roles\, as well as receive advice and support. \nOur group can also enjoy a few social outings throughout the year. \nThis group runs on the last Thursday of every month from 12.30pm – 2.30pm in the Renfrewshire Carers Centre.

DESCRIPTION:A session for family members supporting someone with Dementia \nThe Renfrewshire Carers Training Project is working in partnership with MAC RESEARCH AND CONSULTANCY LIMITED. \nOur aim is:  \nto help family and unpaid carers communicate more easily with the person they care for\, understand what may lie ahead\, and find practical ways to reduce the daily weight of caring — including looking after themselves. \nBy the end of the session\, you will be able to: \n\nUse three or four communication approaches that reduce distress and confrontation.\nknow in broad terms how dementia may change over time\, and what that means for planning.\nIdentify practical changes to daily routines that reduce friction and effort.\nRecognize signs of carer strain in themselves and name one thing they will do about it.\nKnow where to go for support\, respite\, financial help and legal advice in Scotland.\n\nDate: Friday 18th September 26       \nTime: 10.30am to 12.30pm \nPlace: Renfrewshire Carers Centre \nThe course will be facilitated by \nGareth Jenks from MAC RESEARCH AND CONSULTANCY LIMITED \nTo register to and secure a place please use the link below  or call Liz on 0141 887 3643 or email training@renfrewshirecarers.org.uk

SUMMARY:Mental Health Carers Support Group
DESCRIPTION:This group is for Carers who are looking after loved ones with a mental health diagnosis. The aim is to bring them together in a safe\, respectful space where they can talk and support each other through the challenges they face. \nAs well as receiving peer support at this group – advice and information for Carers is given out at every meeting. We also\, on occasion\, invite speakers to deliver information sessions and have been known to enjoy wellbeing themed workshops during the Group. \n  \n“Coming to the Group has been quite life saving for me. I get to meet other people who are going through the same things as me and I can talk freely without the fear of being judged. \nPeople do really understand and I don’t feel I need to hold back.  And what I find really beautiful is that I’ve been able to make friends out of the people who come to the Group.”  \n   -Mental Health Carers Support Group member \nThis group runs on the third Tuesday of every month\, 6.00pm – 8.00pm\, in the Renfrewshire Carers Centre.
