Please note – these information booklets are a work in progress and this page will be updated as we develop more resources.

Every person with autism is unique therefore caring for someone with autism involves understanding their unique needs, providing consistent support, promoting independence and looking after their wellbeing. This can involve recognising and responding to unique sensory preferences, communication styles and emotional needs and playing a vital role in navigating the educational, health and social care systems but most importantly being their mum, dad, gran, brother, sister etc.

Caring for someone with Dementia can be a demanding, intense, and at times, a stressful journey, but it is also filled with meaningful and rewarding moments. Many

Carers speak about both the joys and the hardships of looking after a loved one with Dementia.

While they often grieve the inevitable losses that come with the illness, they also develop a deep appreciation for the person and the shared activities, memories, and social connections they can still enjoy together.

RAMH Intro

One in every four people in Scotland are affected by poor mental health. Not only does this have a profound impact on the person themselves, it also impacts on the people closest to them. It seems only fitting, therefore, that RAMH and the Carers Centre should be working together to bring you this informative booklet.

We know the stigma that surrounds having poor mental health often prevents people seeking help when they need it most. Anything designed to improve early access to information and resources can only be a good thing.

Caring comes with additional costs that can have a significant impact on Carers’ finances which can lead to financial hardship. These costs could include paying for care services or higher living expenses.

44% of working-age adults who are caring for 35 hours or more a week are in poverty. (Statistic from Joseph Rowntree Foundation, UK Poverty 2022).

Many Carers are also impacted by having to give up their work or reducing their hours which can have an impact on household incomes.
