Advocacy
The aim of the Carers Advocacy Service is to ensure Carers’ voices are heard, their rights are protected, and their needs are understood. Advocates work alongside Carers – never speaking for them unless asked – to help them express their views, make informed decisions, and navigate systems that can be complex or overwhelming to some.
Our service provides 1:1 advocacy to Carers who are experiencing issues as a direct result of their caring role.
An advocate can help Carers to:
- Understand their rights and entitlements.
- Provide relevant information and explore choices.
- Communicate effectively with health, social care, and other services.
- Challenge decisions they believe are unfair.
- Feel more confident in speaking up about their own physical and mental wellbeing.
Advocacy may be of help when Carers are experiencing difficulties with the following:
- Social work, health and other support services
- Hospital discharge planning
- Transition from home into long-term care
- Attendance at meetings/reviews
- Housing
