On Carers Rights Day 2023, Renfrewshire Carers Centre has written to Renfrewshire’s MSP’s & Councillors to ask for their commitment ensuring Carers’ rights are implemented and protected both locally and nationally. Read the letter below.
Dear elected representative,
Renfrewshire Carers Centre provides support to unpaid Carers living in Renfrewshire through a diverse range of high-quality services. We aim to provide a lifeline for Carers, improving the quality of their lives and those they care for.
There are an estimated 800,000 unpaid Carers in Scotland which includes 30,000 young Carers under the age of 18. The value of unpaid care provided by Carers in Scotland is £12.8 billion per year.
There are approximately 17,000 unpaid Carers in Renfrewshire who make a vital contribution to ensure that their loved ones get the care they need.
In line with other local authorities in Scotland, Renfrewshire is now facing a severe economic upheaval with the current budget crisis, and we must ensure that Carers will not be affected disproportionately.
23 November 2023 is Carers Rights Day. On this day and on behalf of Carers within your constituencies, we ask that you support the following:
We hope you take all of this into careful consideration to ensure Carers are not left without vital support.
