History of Renfrewshire Carers Centre

Following a Community Care Conference in November 1991 a District Carers Group was developed. This group focused on resourcing Carers in terms of information and identifying issues. This group went on to form CARD (Carers Action Renfrew District) a locally constituted voluntary group who obtained charitable status.

CARD was a campaigning group that were successful in obtaining a dedicated Carers service by campaigning for the Carers Forum Project. These groups worked closely together to secure funding from the Princess Royal Trust for Carers and Renfrewshire Council to provide a Carers Centre – a one stop shop for Carers. The Carers Centre was opened in January 1996.

Renfrewshire Carers Centre is a registered charity (SCO23986) which is governed by a board of directors, the majority of whom must be Carers or former Carers themselves. Renfrewshire Carers Centre has been providing a wide range of support and services to Carers in Renfrewshire for over 25 years.

“I am delighted and proud that I have been voted by the Board to take up the role of Chair of Renfrewshire Carers Centre from September 2023.

I have been a Board member since January 2017 and seen first-hand what a talented team we have at the Centre. Renfrewshire Carers Centre undertakes amazing work and is very much at the centre of the Renfrewshire community.

I am looking forward to continuing as a Board member and Chair, and I will support the Centre and promote the great work it does within the community.”
