History of Renfrewshire Carers Centre

Following a Community Care Conference in November 1991 a District Carer Group was developed. This group focused on resourcing carers in terms of information and identifying issues. This group went on to form CARD (Carers Action Renfrew District) a locally constituted voluntary group who obtained charitable status.

CARD was a campaigning group that were successful in obtaining a dedicated carers service by campaigning for the Carers Forum Project. These groups worked closely together to secure funding from the Princess Royal Trust for Carers and Renfrewshire Council to provide a Carers Centre – a one stop shop for carers. The Carers Centre was opened in January 1996.

Renfrewshire Carers Centre is a registered charity (SCO23986) which is governed by a board of directors, the majority of whom must be carers or former carers themselves. Renfrewshire Carers Centre has been providing a wide range of support and services to carers for over 20 years.
